Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to build a website?

A five page website could take as little as two to three weeks. Larger sites with more web pages and/or more complex requirements could take three to five or more weeks. The project’s duration will vary from website to website and from client to client.

How much does a new website cost?

Instead of cost, think investment in your business. Then the question can be better phrased, what is the investment in a website worth to my business? The investment in a website can vary depending on a number of variables, just like the investment in a house will vary. A two bedroom ranch with one bathroom and no garage is going to require a smaller investment than a five bedroom colonial with three full bathrooms and a two car garage.

How long has Philip Havens Technology LLC been building websites?

Philip Havens Technology LLC was started in 2010 and website development is what got me started in business. Philip has been working with technology, project management, and business analysis for over 30 years.

What platform or framework do you build your websites on?

I build all new client websites using the Squarespace platform. Why you ask? User-friendly platform; professionally designed templates; built-in SSL security; built-in analytics; 24/7 support; easy to learn and use for non-technical users; no-coding is required, but can be used if needed; all sites are mobile-friendly; affordable hosting plans; uses SEO best practices; social media integration.

Can you help me write content for my website?

I believe that you know your organization, your members, and your community better than I do. Therefore you are most likely in the best position to write about what you do. I do include content proofing as a normal part of the development process, but this does not include the writing of original content. I can help you find copywriters or branding experts or marketers if those services are needed.

Do I have full access to my website once it is launched?

Yes. If you want to have access to your site to add and update content, I can provide that for you. If you would prefer to be totally “hands-off” the website, then I am happy to handle your updates as needed. If you want design or page layout changes, those are probably best done by me.

Who will I work with during the project?

This is a great question to ask and you should ask it of any web design company or agency you are considering. Some companies will farm out work to freelancers, part-timers, or interns. With Philip Havens Technology LLC, you will work directly with me, Philip Havens.

Do you work with other website frameworks or CMS systems like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Weebly, or Wix?

With some exceptions, usually I prefer not to. I like to focus exclusively on the Squarespace design platform. By choosing to build with one platform, I am able to focus all of my efforts and energy to leverage the full features of the Squarespace environment. I do have experience with Wordpress and occasionally will entertain helping a client out of a jam with a Wordpress issue. There is nothing “wrong” with Content Management Systems (CMS) like Wordpress, Drupal and Joomla, or DIY website builders like Weebly and WIX, but I am just not trying to be a website design company for everyone.

Can you help me source photos or videos for my website?

Yes. I will help you source stock photos. I also have photographers and videographers available to produce custom photography and videos for your website. The value of including the appropriate images on a  website cannot be emphasized enough. Website engagement increases significantly with high quality photographs included. Some day I am going to write a blog post about this and I will cite sources.

What precautions are you taking in response to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Philip Havens Technology LLC closely monitors the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by staying attuned to guidance and recommendations from the State of Connecticut. Out of an abundance of caution to protect both my clients and myself, all client meetings are held via telephone or video calls. Currently, and for the foreseeable future, no in-person meetings are being scheduled.
